How do I create new tasks?
There are two ways of creating new tasks.

From the "New wave" menu:
  • The "New wave" menu is located in the inbox panel. After installing Tasky, opening the panel will reavel the option "New Tasky Wave".
  • Clicking on "New Tasky Wave" will create a new task in your inbox and will open it for editing.
From an existing wave:
  • While editing a blip, select/highlight up to 5 lines of text and click on the Tasky task-ify button in the toolbar.
  • Each line of text will become a link to a new wave, which will also appear in your inbox. The new wave will have the tag "task".
  • Changing the status of a task, by selecting a status in the select box that appears in each task wave, will magically change the appearance of the text you originally highlighted as well as the tags in the task wave.
  • Adding other participants to the task will allow you to assign the task to a group of people. Assigning a person will also change the appearance of the text you highlighted to create the task.

How do I search for tasks?
Since tasks are waves that have various tags, the easiest way to find and list tasks is to use the "tag:" search term. Here are a few examples:
  • To get a list of all your tasks, enter "with:me tag:task" in the search panel.
  • To get a list of all tasks in progress search for "tag:status-inprogress".
  • To get the list of all active tasks, not including the sub-tasks, search for "with:me tag:task -tag:status-completed -tag:status-canceled -tag:status-rejected -tag:template -tag:sub-task"
  • To get a list of tasks updated in the past day, search for "tag:task past:1d"

You can save those searches for easy access by clicking on the "Save search" button located at the bottom right corner of the search panel. You can also install a list of saved searches for Tasky from Tasky Extras Wave.

What are sub-tasks? How do I create them?
Sub-tasks are simply tasks that are created from within tasks. Tasky will then automatically tag them as sub-tasks. To create a sub-task, open any task, put the main blip (message in a wave) into edit mode, enter a line of text that describes the sub-task, highlight (select with the mouse or with the keyboard) that text and use the task-ify toolbar button.

All sub-tasks also have a reference to their "parent" task.

How do I delete a task?
To delete a task, set its status to Canceled or move it to the Trash folder.

How do I create customized statuses in tasks?
Every task has a list of statuses to choose from. The last item of the status select box is called Custom. Click on it, and then enter the new status.

Whenever you set a status that way, it will also be stored in your browser's storage, so next time you will just have to choose the status from the list.

How much information does Tasky store about my tasks?
Tasky does not store any information about tasks or about its users, and it does not transmit the information to other remote servers. Tasky runs on App Engine, which logs recent incoming traffic. That traffic includes the structure and content of parts of the waves that Tasky has been added to. That information is required for Tasky to operate.

Can a task have more than one status?
Yes, you can set a secondary status by selecting the "Add Secondary" option in the primary status select box.

A new status box will then appear, allowing you to set a secondary status. This works well with customized statuses.

Setting a secondary status will also update the tags in the task.

How do I prevent tasks from flooding my inbox?
To stop task waves created by Tasky from flooding your inbox, create a new saved search for tasks and set the auto-archive option. If you've already created a saved search for tasks, you can edit it.
